Learn about our history, mission, and structure as Pakistan's premier linguistic body.
The history of linguistic organizations in the subcontinent dates back to 1928 with the Linguistic Society of India in Lahore. After Pakistan's creation in 1947, the Linguistic Research Group of Pakistan emerged in the 1960s, laying the foundation for organized linguistic research in the country.
In 1988, the Linguistic Association of Pakistan (LAP) was formally established at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, aiming to unify linguists nationwide and provide a common platform for academic discourse.
After a period of inactivity during 2007–2013, LAP was successfully revived in 2014 and continues to actively promote linguistic research, organize conferences, and support the linguistic community across Pakistan.
LAP stands as the premier linguistic body, fostering research excellence and multilingualism in Pakistan.
The complete rules and regulations document is being finalized and will be published soon. For any inquiries, please contact the administration.
